His postgraduate training was a comprehensive journey that involved a research fellowship with Professor Olivia Traxer and Professor Andries Hoznek in Paris, covering flexible ureteroscopy and supine PCNL. He has also broadened his expertise by completing a Holmium laser enucleation masterclass with Professor Scoffone in Turin, Italy, and Professor Beaumont in Paris. His dedication and hard work were recognized when he was the only South African awarded the International Endourology fellowship in 2012 with Professor Monga at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr Kalpee, as practising endourologist in Durban, had a keen interest in stone disease and holmium laser enucleation of the prostate. His proficiency in performing ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy, with over a thousand procedures under his belt, is a testament to his expertise. He is one of the few surgeons in the country performing supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy, with over a hundred punctures to his credit. Dr Kalpee was the first Urologist in the country to perform Holmium Laser Enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP), and his role as the founding member of the South African Holmium User Group (SAHUG) is a testament to his leadership and influence in the field. He has performed over five hundred procedures and is a HOLEP proctor for Boston Scientific for the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa. 

In 2022, Dr Kalpee held the pivotal role of BPH lead at NHS Tayside, Scotland, with a focus on HOLEP training and proctorship for the UK. He was awarded the Trainer of the Year in 2023 for the East of Scotland Deanery. During his tenure, he was instrumental in introducing Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures for BPH to the East of Scotland and is an expert REZUM user, having performed more than 80 procedures. In 2024, he became the Director of the University of Dundee Cadaveric HOLEP masterclass - which is an annual international accredited HOLEP course affiliated with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh which has trained dozens of HOLEP surgeons from across the world.

His work with the University of Dundee has included being a senior lecturer and the 2nd Year Urology lead. He is accredited as a trainer and educational supervisor with the General Medical Council (UK) for his work.

Dr Kalpee has presented at several endourology meetings both nationally and internationally including the Expert in Stone Disease Meetings, World Congress of Endourology and Technology and Training in Urology and the British Association of Urology Endourology subcommittee meetings. He is also a keynote speaker at several post graduate workshops for CR BARD, Cook Medical, Boston Scientific, Bayer medical and Karl Storz. He has been the lead HOLEP trainer at the 2023 and 2024 BAUS Advanced Bootcamp hosted at Leeds University Hospitals UK.

He is a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons, the International Endourology Society, and the Southern African Endourology Society. He recently became a board member of the SIU subcommittee on Endourology and Stone Disease. Dr Kalpee is a reviewer for the SIU Journal, African Journal of Urology, Journal of Clinical Urology, and Scottish Medical Journal. His publications have focused on HOLEP and renal calculi. 

Dr Kalpee is currently married and has two children. His commitment and dedication to his family and professional duties are a testament to his well-balanced approach to life.
